Sip Sustainably, explore boldly. Our commitment to sustainability
Great tasting rum shouldn’t cost the earth, that's why sustainability is the heart of V. A lot of energy goes into crafting our rum, but even more goes into our sustainability initiatives.
Learn how we're making a difference
Our commitment to sustainability
Our planet is precious. At V, we believe in responsibility, so we’re tackling our impact head on – from production to distribution, how we manage our impact on the environment is what sets us apart. Our not-so-secret-agent plan sets out five missions for a sustainable future, but these aren’t just words, we’re also taking action in the here and now.
Protecting the environment
We focus on sustainability, considering the material used in production, the production process and the way our products are packed and shipped. Where our processes have more impact than we think they should, we have plans in place to mitigate those. We also produce our annual Impact Report.
Green Energy
There’s no avoiding the fact that distilleries use a lot of energy. Our electricity is 100% renewable, working with Ecotricity. We also use gas from Ecotricity, one of the pioneers of green gas. Whilst currently the use of natural gas is unavoidable, Ecotricity off-set emissions through reduction schemes alongside our own initiatives. We also have our 40KW solar array due to go live in October 2024 at our distillery to reduce our dependency on the grid.

For what we cannot avoid…
We work with our partners at Ecologi ,both to plant trees for every order you make as well as support various carbon avoidance projects. Whilst trees are a great way to protect our future, they do not deliver significant immediate benefit, that’s where our CO2e avoidance projects make an impact. This is an important step in our focus on delivering climate positive rum!
Climate projects we have supported with Ecologi
Thanks to the loyal support of our V Rum customers, we have directly supported the funding of climate projects all over the world. Explore some of the projects we have supported in conjunction with Ecologi below.
Forest restoration in Kenya
Afromontane reforestation in Mau, Kenya
Ecologi’s projects in Kenya are run by Eden Reforestation Projects (‘Eden’) – a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide fair-wage employment to impoverished villagers as agents of global forest restoration.
The Kass FM project site is located in the Mau Region of Southern Kenya, covering six individually-defined reforestation areas totalling 5,700 hectares in area. The land itself is owned by the local community and will be planted by local community members from the region.
Mangrove planting in Madagascar
Coastal mangrove restoration in Kandrany
Ecologi’s projects in Madagascar are run by Eden Reforestation Projects (‘Eden’) – a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide fair-wage employment to impoverished villagers as agents of global forest restoration.
The mangrove restoration efforts in Madagascar support planting locations on parcels of coastal land to the North West of the island, near Mahajanga. Whilst the combined restoration area is wider, to date Ecologi have funded mangrove planting spanning an area of around 600 hectares of this degraded coastal region.
Planting forest gardens in Tanzania
Revitalising the local landscape and supporting farmers
Trees for the Future (TREES) has planted more than 250 million trees since it was founded in 1989. In addition to enhancing ecological and environmental benefits at planting sites around the world, TREES’ staff are experts in agroforestry, which combines agriculture and forestry to create integrated and sustainable land-use systems.
The trees that are planted in the Forest Gardens revitalise the local landscape and help create new business and market opportunities for the farmers, which enables them to diversify their income and be more resilient to climate change.
